Mortal Shell 2 NPC Quests: Talk, Reload, Then Find Them

NPC quests move by talking, resting at a beacon to reload, then talking again. This page covers Gorf, Hilga, the Grisha pup, Egon, Vlas, and Baghead.

How do NPC quests work?

Current for the launch version.

Talk until the lines stop changing, rest at a beacon to reload the area, then talk again or go find the NPC after they have moved. That loop is the whole method. The documented quests are Gorf with Hilga, the Grisha pup, Egon, Vlas, and Baghead.

This is not a full NPC census. Chapel Key and Crypt Key live on keys.

NPCFirst documented spotWhat the loop is for
GorfNear the first beaconMarsh pearls, then the Hilga handoff
HilgaMushroom VillageTakes the dagger and later appears at Gorf
Grisha HunterA vendor camp with a cageThe pup key; the vendor dies if you release it
EgonA small castle at Castigator’s KeepA 20,000 Gloom tribute that comes back doubled
VlasOutskirts of MammonLost cat Mutton, then a cage at Lonesome Spire
BagheadHis own plateau with a stone seatThe nothing offering on the endings page

Gorf and Hilga are one pair

Start at Gorf near the first beacon. Exhaust talk, reload, repeat. He pays in marsh pearls. The opening Weltcap-for-pearl handoff still stands; this longer loop is extra, not a replacement. After the mushrooms make him sick, he is claimed to give a poison dagger. Steam’s public achievement list did not name that dagger, so treat it as a claimed handoff, not a confirmed unique weapon.

Gorf speaking at the Mushroom Village camp

Hilga is at Mushroom Village. Give her the dagger when that step is available. She disappears, then shows up at Gorf. On-screen she says He rests now. More reloads finish the pair. The full route is on the Gorf page.

The Grisha pup costs the vendor

A Grisha Hunter sells the key that opens the pup’s cage. The on-screen line is The pup is yours. Releasing the pup leaves that vendor dead. The pair then disappear. Do not invent a later Grisha location.

Egon doubles a 20,000 Gloom tribute

Egon sits in a small castle at Castigator’s Keep. A shown tribute of 20,000 Gloom makes him die and return the Gloom doubled. On-screen he says A fitting tribute. Review-build play could double the whole purse. A day-one patch limited that. The current cap is unknown.

Vlas is looking for Mutton

Vlas starts in the Outskirts of Mammon. His companion is a cat named Mutton. Talk, search nearby, reload, then find him caged at Lonesome Spire. Buy from the vendor beside the cage before you hand over the key. The later keep name is not settled here. The route is on the Vlas page.

Baghead is a separate path

Baghead is not finished on this page. His accepted offering is nothing. That path is on the endings page. It is not written as the only ending.

Common mistakes

  • Walking away after one talk. Reload at a beacon and come back.
  • Releasing the Grisha pup before buying. The vendor is gone after the release.
  • Treating Egon as an unlimited Gloom printer. The unlimited-carry double is patched.
  • Calling this a full ending list. Baghead is one documented path.

NPC quest FAQ

Do I have to finish every NPC?

No. The rewards are small beside Shell and weapon work. Do them if you want the stories.

Is Franz an NPC quest on this page?

No. Franz is the upgrade machine. That stays on weapon upgrades.

Where are the keys?

Not here. Chapel Key and Crypt Key are on keys.
