Which lock does this key open?

Current for the launch version.

Chapel Key opens the Chapel — the same door the early-weapons page calls the Shrine of Trials. Damp Key opens the Forgotten Crossbow room. A Blackmarrow Key buys one shade in Marrowkeep. Crypt Key is a real name with no walked door on this page.

Chapel Key used on the Chapel door

A world door, a dungeon lock, a shade coffin, and a cage lock are different jobs. This page is the world and shade keys. Cage keys stay on the NPC pages.

Chapel Key

This is the mushroom-village key. One pickup answers both names.

Start just outside Mushroom Village. Go right past the dancing crowd, right again, and over the bridge. The altar or portal past that fight is an opening. The statue on the far side holds the Chapel Key.

Chapel Key acquired beside the statue past Mushroom Village

Bring it back to the Chapel in the village. That door is the Shrine of Trials. The blades at the end are Axe and Dagger. A plaque inside reads: Gaze upon your king so true. Back and back you shall pass through. Walk backward. Do not hunt a second mushroom-village key for the same lock.

Damp Key

Damp Key is not a village door. It sits on the Forgotten Crossbow loop west of Widow’s Overlook. Break the illusory board, ride the elevator, take the key from behind a house, then open the locked room. The bow steps stay on that page.

Blackmarrow Key

A Blackmarrow Key is spent in Marrowkeep, not in the village chapel. One key opens one shade. The key is consumed. Spend the first one on a look you actually want.

The early walk needs Night Mode. From the night toggle, head toward Mushroom Village. The secret dungeon on that road — titled Shrine of Sorrows — does not open in daylight.

Night path toward the Shrine of Sorrows dungeon

Inside, a Tempered Iron Key from a pot opens the first rooms. A later Basement Key continues the loop. The prize is the Blackmarrow Key. A Tooth of Nocte can sit on the same run. A three-candle chest in this night dungeon is not the lute chest.

A second documented chest sits off the hub: hit a wall, shoot four hanging chains, and follow the hidden path to another Blackmarrow Key. Return to the hub, hug the wall to a platform, and spend the key on the shade row.

Creators call those locks chests or coffins. Either way, you are in the hub shade room. One documented unlock is Bonegrafted. Shades are new looks for Shells you already have. They are not an eighth Shell.

The deluxe pack can include an Obsidian shade. That is not a found key.

Named keys without a walk

Crypt Key appears as a location-and-use hunt. This page does not invent that door. Do not treat The King’s Crypt dungeon name as the same walk.

Unremarkable Key has a titled tape that is NPC talk, not a lock.

Feeding Room Key is a titled location with no walked door in this set.

Cage keys for Vlas and the Grisha pup belong on those quests.

Common mistakes

  • Treating Chapel Key and the mushroom-village key as two hunts. Same pickup.
  • Walking Shrine of Sorrows for Axe and Dagger. That weapon is Shrine of Trials.
  • Walking the night dungeon in daylight. The early Blackmarrow path stays dark.
  • Spending the first Blackmarrow Key on a shade you do not want. One key, one look.
  • Hunting the lute in this night three-candle chest. The lute is on the tavern wall.
  • Using this page for Vlas or Grisha cage keys. Those stay on the NPC pages.
  • Waiting on Crypt Key before opening Chapel or Damp. Those two are walked now.
