How do infusions work?

Current for the launch version.

Infusions are Tarstones locked to a specific weapon. You spend Resolve to put a status on that weapon. They are not a shared gem you can move onto any blade. Ranking the stone itself still needs the Etching Needles at Franz.

Three infusion panels are fully readable. They share the same rank ladder: 4 strikes, then 8 strikes, then permanent.

Bloodcurse: Arbiter’s Prize

Arbiter’s Prize spends 30 Resolve to infuse the weapon with Bloodcurse. Rank 1 lasts 4 strikes, rank 2 lasts 8, rank 3 is permanent.

Once an enemy is cursed, a hit aimed at you can stagger that enemy and make it hurt itself. The Iconoclast can take this socket. Axe and Dagger and Clockwork Scythe are also shown with Arbiter’s Prize. Veteran’s Battle Axe has a curse-blood option of its own.

Poison: Serpent Stone

Serpent Stone spends 15 Resolve to infuse the weapon with Poison. The rank ladder is the same 4 / 8 / permanent steps.

Axe and Dagger can take Serpent Stone. Black Needle can take poison as well; that spear’s unique socket is Phantom, which builds damage and then splashes a large stagger burst.

Frost: Warden’s Stone

Warden’s Stone spends 30 Resolve to infuse the weapon with Frost. Same 4 / 8 / permanent ladder.

Great Martyr’s Blade is the melee weapon shown with frost. Without it the greatsword stays slow. The stone itself sits at a far-southeast gate in the second half of the map, so the blade is a mid-game pickup with a late socket. Lightning is the other infusion shown on that sword.

Other locked sockets

These are named on the weapons that can take them. They do not yet have their own readable panels on this page.

SocketShown onWhat it is for
Permanent burnVeteran’s Battle AxeEarlier than curse on that axe

Duality Stone is not an infusion. It is a combat Tarstone that only the two dual-wield weapons can use. See early weapons for Axe and Dagger and best weapons for Axatana.

Common mistakes

  • Looking for one infusion that fits every weapon. The sockets are locked.
  • Paying Franz for ranks before the needles are in. The stone still caps.
  • Taking Great Martyr’s Blade and expecting frost immediately. Warden’s Stone is late.
  • Calling Duality an infusion. It is a combat stone, not a Resolve spend.

How does Serpent Stone work? 15 Resolve for Poison, same rank ladder.

How does Warden’s Stone work? 30 Resolve for Frost, same rank ladder. It is the frost socket for Great Martyr’s Blade.
