What do Shell abilities do?

Current for the launch version.

A Shell ability is the unique active you press on that body, plus the talent tree you spend Shell points on. The seven Shells named by unlock achievements have documented actives. The eighth playable Shell is not named here.

A Shell using a unique active in a close fight

This page is the kit list. Pickup routes stay on Shell locations. The first-hour choice stays on first Shell. Do not treat the table as a power ranking.

ShellDocumented activeWhy you pick that kit
TielLingering Shadow — a last-moment dodge that enters ShadowYou want an evade answer instead of a first Seal
ProximaBio Sampler — a hookYou want the shortest open-world body, then a grab tool
EredrimShoulder Bash (lunge, heavy break) and Ethereal Diapason (blinding break AoE)You want to slam and stagger instead of dodge
GraguStaggering Blow — a chargeable punch; Revered Heart heals from kill heartsYou want exploration sustain, not a boss-retry heal. Pickup: Gragu
SmertMiracle — spend half health to halt time and enter a fight stanceYou want a high-cost freeze, not a starter kit. Pickup: Smert
SarielExodus of Thorns plus Purge — thorns apply Curse; empty Pain converts half of incoming hitsYou want a late Pain convert. Pickup: Sariel
LazloRetribution — fiery shockwaves around a heat meterYou want a late armor-and-heat kit. Pickup: Lazlo
EighthNot listedOfficially eight playable Shells; this page does not name the leftover

Harros is the prologue body. That job is story order, not a talent tree on this list.

How Shell points work

Glimpses used to deepen a Shell are limited. Shell points in the talent tree can be refunded and moved between Shells you already unlocked. You can try a tree, pull the points out, and put them on another body.

Take ability unlocks to the Shellkeeper at Marrowkeep. Maxing one Shell’s bonding tier there is its own milestone; it is not the same as collecting every Shell.

Do not spend Glimpses as if they refund like points. They do not.

How to read the later kits

Tiel and Proxima are the first-hour bodies. Eredrim has a Gloomshade Grove route on the Eredrim page. Gragu, Smert, Sariel, and Lazlo now have their own pickup pages. This table stays a kit list, not a map.

Creator rankings are not copied here. A kit that looks strong on a later Shell is still a later Shell.

Common mistakes

  • Treating this table as a tier list. It is a kit list.
  • Expecting Glimpses to refund. Only Shell points move.
  • Hunting the unnamed eighth body first. Finish a named Shell and a Seal first.
  • Using Gragu’s kill-hearts as a boss plan. That sustain wants trash packs, not a locked arena.

Frequently asked questions

What are Shell abilities in Mortal Shell 2? Each named Shell has an active and a talent tree. The seven achievement Shells are in the table. The eighth is not named.

How do you get Shell points? Spend them on a Shell’s tree after you inhabit that body. You can refund those points and move them to another unlocked Shell.

Do Glimpses refund? No. Treat Glimpses as limited. Treat Shell points as movable.

Where do you upgrade Shell abilities? At the Shellkeeper in Marrowkeep, for the seven named Shells.

Is there a best ability? No verified ranking. Pick the kit that matches the job: dodge, hook, slam, hearts, freeze, pain, or heat.
